Chelsea: Boehly had 'conversations' with £7m-a-year advisor at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea will not appoint Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos as their new sporting director as he is ‘not in the running’ at Stamford Bridge, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Blues spent upwards of £250million as they looked to draft in fresh talent during the summer window, but co-owner Todd Boehly wants to fill a key behind-the-scenes role ahead of the reopening of the transfer market.

Although Campos was only unveiled as an advisor to oversee Paris Saint-Germain’s recruitment in June, he has been linked with a quickfire move away from the Parc des Princes.

According to French media outlet Le Parisien, the 58-year-old has been offered a contract worth £7million-per-year to take charge of the next two transfer windows at Chelsea.

The report suggests Boehly, who led a takeover worth £4.25billion in May, would give Campos a budget worth more than £260million to spend in 2023 if he were to make the move from PSG.

But Chelsea are not the only Premier League side to have shown an interest as the Portuguese is reportedly wanted at Manchester United if Sir Jim Ratcliffe succeeds in persuading the Glazer family to sell the club.

Campos has previously held backstage roles at Real Madrid, Monaco, Lille, Galatasaray and Celta Vigo.

Jacobs understands that Campos is not in the hunt for the sporting director job at Chelsea despite holding discussions with Boehly.

The journalist believes talks were only held over a role similar to what he currently holds at PSG instead.

“He won’t be leaving PSG and he’d have to be to join Chelsea, but I don’t think they thought he was the right fit.
