Newcastle: £50m St James' Park exit would be 'massive shock to Magpies fans'

Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin leaving St James’ Park this summer would come as a “massive shock” to supporters, claims journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 25-year-old has become a fan favourite since joining the Magpies from Nice back in 2019, but reports suggest that the club could be willing to let him go in the next transfer window.

Earlier this month, the Mail on Sunday reported that Newcastle are open to selling Saint-Maximin in the summer.

According to them, the Tyneside club would be prepared to let the Frenchman go if a bid of around £50m arrived.

Saint-Maximin’s end product is not always there, with the former Nice man scoring just six Premier League goals for the Magpies in his first two seasons combined. However, his dribbling still makes him a dangerous player.

In the English top flight this term, no player is currently averaging more dribbles per game than Saint-Maximin (via WhoScored).

O’Rourke has told GIVEMESPORT that it would come as a surprise if Newcastle sold Saint-Maximin but thinks it is a possibility if the player is not handed a new contract.

The transfer insider said: “I still think it would come as a massive shock to Newcastle fans if they were to sell Saint-Maximin. It might all come down to whether they can agree a new deal with him or not.

“Maybe Saint-Maximin’s looking for a new contract, and if that’s not forthcoming, then maybe a parting of the ways might come.”

No. As already mentioned, while he does have his weaknesses, the Magpies attacker can cause havoc in the final third with his trickery.
