Newcastle: £40m star not Eddie Howe's 'priority' at St James' Park

Newcastle United have bigger priorities than Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The English shot-stopper is currently being linked with a move to St James’ Park, but O’Rourke thinks Eddie Howe is more likely to splash out on a new centre-forward and centre-back.

Manchester Evening News recently reported that Newcastle have held talks with Henderson over a loan.

As per the same outlet, an offer of £40m was previously thought to be in the offing, but a temporary deal now looks more likely for the 25-year-old, who has barely played this season.

While he has featured in the Champions League and Manchester United’s other cup competitions, Henderson has not started a single league game.

The above makes it no surprise that he could potentially leave Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window as he looks for more minutes.

O’Rourke thinks Howe would rather spend most of his budget on a new striker and central defender than use a large chunk of it on Henderson.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “I don’t think they necessarily need to spend 40 million on a goalkeeper, although Dean Henderson is a very good goalkeeper, as he has shown at Manchester United when he has played.

“I think it might take a large chunk out of their budget, so elsewhere, Eddie Howe might be looking to strengthen the squad, with maybe a new striker and a centre-half probably more of a priority than a goalkeeper.”

If Newcastle are going to spend big on one position in the upcoming transfer window, then it should probably be on a No.9.
