New twist for Sheffield Wednesday as next opponents AFC Wimbledon sack head coach Mark Robinson

AFC Wimbledon have sacked head coach Mark Robinson ahead of their trip to Sheffield Wednesday. The Dons have dropped into the League One relegation zone after a 20-match winless run.

Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Cambridge United was their fifth on the bounce and left them a point adrift of safety with seven matches left. The Dons are scheduled to visit Hillsborough on Saturday.

A short club statement read: "Head Coach Mark Robinson has today parted company with AFC Wimbledon by mutual consent. The club would like to place on record its gratitude to Mark for all his hard work, loyalty and commitment whilst in this role. There will be no further statement for the time being."

It finished all square when the two sides last went toe-to-toe back in October. The Owls established a two-goal lead after a brace from Lee Gregory. But the Dons earned a share of the spoils after second half strikes from Nesta Guinness-Walker and Jack Rudoni.

Wednesday will enter Saturday's clash on the back of a thrilling come-from-behind 4-1 victory over Cheltenham Town. Victory moved them back into the play-off positions.

"The thing that pleased me early on was how we responded to Cheltenham getting their goal," said Darren Moore. "It was a deflected goal and these things happen.

"It’s how you respond that counts. We brushed that off really and got straight back on it and equalised.

"Credit to the players because that’s exactly what you want to see. After that it was pretty much one way and I always felt if the chances come our way then so will the goals because we have the players who can put the ball in the back of the net."
