New Stirling Albion arrival insists DNA in place for top season after debut goal

It’s been a whirlwind start for Stirling Albion new boy Josh Kerr – but he insists he’s only at the club after seeing the DNA of a successful season.

The 26-year-old arrived at the beginning of last week after leaving Cove Rangers and was pitched straight into the Binos starting eleven at Edinburgh City as they mounted a nerve-shredding late comeback to snatch all three points on the opening day.

The former Airdrie and Derry City stopper enjoyed an impressive debut initially at the back before moving into midfield and got himself on the scoresheet with a late headed equaliser.

It was an important intervention after City had opened the scoring midway via a superb Connor Young strike midway through the second half and looked to be on course for victory.

But goals from Kerr and a sumptuous stoppage-time volley from Dale Carrick broke the capital side’s hearts and brought the win back to Stirling.

Kerr said: “We’ve obviously a wee bit disappointed to go 1-0 down but I think you want to get that first win on the board and no one is going to look back and ask how you did it and how you played that day.

“We managed to get it back to one each and then with the momentum we had, it felt as if there was only going to be one winner at that point and Dale comes up with a bit of a wonder strike.”

Kerr says a change in his own family circumstances necessitated the move away from Paul Hartley’s side after 32 appearances for the Aberdeen side last season.

The ex-Brighton youth has also been left impressed by Stirling boss Alan Maybury, who has been a keen admirer of Kerr’s talents.
