New steak spot and bar headed to Sale’s former Food Hall

A new restaurant specialising in steak is heading to the unit vacated by the Sale Food Hall. Part of the Stanley Square redevelopment, Canteena Bar and Grill is a new project from Danielle Condron and Lisa Kettle, who were previously running The Bridge pub in Sale, and No 1 Canal Street in the village.

It will serve up Irish Dexter and Brazilian steak, as well as vegan and vegetarian dishes. Splitting the unit into two, there will be a restaurant and a bar area, with plans for set three course menu on Thursdays.

Danielle said: “We love Sale and its community and wanted to make sure everyone can enjoy the incredible food and new cosy, contemporary feel at Canteena.

“We have worked hard to cover every price range when it comes to the menu. We want Canteena to be Sale’s home away from home when it comes to sharing food and drink with the people closest to you.”

The Food Hall, part of the Store Group which has General Stores in Stretford, Ancoats, Media City and Deansgate Square, had been the cornerstone of the Stanley Square development. It featured a General Store shop, a bar and rotating food traders.

Despite its popularity, it sadly announced its closure in March this year, citing ‘unprecedented cost increases’.
