New Marcus Rashford mural created to support Manchester United star

A new mural has been created in tribute to Marcus Rashford in Manchester city centre.

The Manchester United star has endured a difficult season on and off the pitch this year, with injuries ruling him out of action until October and he has struggled to get to his best since returning to action. Rashford has just five goals to his name this season, by far his lowest tally since he graduated to the first team.

As has become a grim inevitability in recent times, Rashford's disappointing displays have led to the 24-year-old receiving repeated abuse on social media. Thankfully, there have continued to be plenty of positive messages sent in his direction, too, for all the brilliant work he has done in the game and outside of it.

Artist Reuben Dangoor wanted to reflect both the good and dreadful posts that get sent in Rashford's direction in his new mural, created in collaboration with headphone brand Beats.

The stunning piece can be found near the Northern Quarter of the city close to the old fish market and depicts a zen Rashford blocking out all the noise surrounding him, represented by varying emojis and social media posts. It also features the message: 'Form is temporary, class is permanent.'

Reuben said on his Instagram post of the artwork: "Beats wanted to do something to show support for Marcus, who is subject to a huge amount of abuse on social media. At the same time highlighting the positive work he has been doing off the pitch and the impact that it’s had."

On a following post, he labelled the mural: "The greatest piece I’ve ever worked on."

The new mural is the second of its kind in Manchester, with the other located in Withington.
