New Man City tactic shows how Pep Guardiola views Jeremy Doku vs Jack Grealish debate

Jeremy Doku has been a revelation in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side following his summer arrival.

Players typically take time to adjust to the Spanish manager's philosophy, with the likes of Nathan Ake, Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips all going through difficult patches following their arrivals at the Etihad. Grealish in particular had an impressive season last year, hitting form at the right time in City’s race for the title and the eventual treble, the 28-year-old from Birmingham was undroppable despite his initial struggles in blue.

After that sort of form, it’s amazing to believe City would even go out and spend big on another player for the left side of their attack. But during the summer that's exactly what City did when they went out and purchased the 21-year-old Doku for over £55.5.million.

That investment now already looks to be a bargain with the winger taking to the team like a duck to water. The Belgian has notched up nine goal contributions, three goals and six assists, from his opening 16 games.

So there is no surprise that there is already fierce competition between the new signing and Grealish, but it does seem Guardiola already has a clear favourite - especially in the league. Grealish has collected 326 Premier League minutes so far this season while Doku has more than double that total with 646 minutes this campaign, perhaps indicating the importance he already has within Guardiola's system.

But that doesn't quite tell the whole story. Grealish sustained a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the opening
