New Coupar Angus Juniors management team keen to build strong community link

The new management team at Coupar Angus Juniors is placing a big emphasis on the local community.

Derek (Del) Mitchell and Jonathan Smart have taken on the role of co-managers at the east Perthshire club.

And early results have been promising, with the weekend’s 6-1 win against Scone Thistle following on from a well-earned 2-2 draw with Midlands League high-flyers Broughty Athletic.

Mitchell, previously of Menzieshill amateurs and Lochee Harp, is hoping to get as many locals down to Foxhall Park to watch his side in the coming weeks and months.

“We’re looking to really build the club up and get the community involved,” he told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“We’re big believers in involving the community and getting a real community feel about the place.

“Results are one thing but we want people to come down on a Saturday, watch some good football and have a nice time.

“We need to put the right things in place for that. With the guys we’ve got on board, it is achievable.”

Last weekend’s Perthshire derby victory bumped Coupar Angus further clear of bottom of the table Scone Thistle.

Mitchell realises that it will take time to begin challenging further up the standings and that it will very much be a building process through until the end of the campaign.

“We have come in to hopefully take Coupar Angus up to the next level and get them challenging in the league,” explained Mitchell.

“We have signed 15 new players who have been with us for a number of years. We have a real good core of guys.

“Next season we will look to build on that and progress the club further.
