New arrest after man, 87, bundled into car, attacked and dumped 15 miles away

A second man has been arrested has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap after an 87-year-old man was bundled into a car and thrown out 15 miles away.

The elderly victim was reportedly dragged into a black car while walking home from Oldham Central Mosque last Sunday evening (September 15). As he turned onto Lee Street from Manchester Street, it is believed that the vehicle pulled up next to him before two men got out and forced him inside.

The pensioner was then blindfolded, threatened and had his clothes ripped by the offenders, who demanded money and his phone, police said.

On Thursday, police arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of kidnap. In an update today, (Sunday), Greater Manchester Police said the man had since been released on bail pending further investigations.

A second man, aged 24, was arrested at an address in Royton this morning on suspicion of the same offence. He remains in custody for questioning.

Detectives have described the shocking incident as an "isolated" one and are continuing to appeal for information about what happened.

Detective Inspector Emma Hulston, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We have arrested two men in connection with this shocking incident and our investigation team is making good
