'Never been as wrong' - Man United fans react to Darwin Nunez transfer fee claims

With Edinson Cavani departing on a free transfer this summer and Antony Martial expected to leave, Cristiano Ronaldo will be the only striker left at Old Trafford next season. This means that Manchester United must sign a striker as at 38, the Portuguese icon can not perform at the top level while playing two games a week; as fans saw this season.

Erik ten Hag likes his strikers to find space in the box and also to occupy defenders to provide space for the attacking midfielder and winger to play into. This has raised further question marks over Ronaldo as the forward likes the ball to his feet and consistently comes out wide or deep in midfield in search of the ball.

The ideal signing would have been Erling Haaland, but seeing how the Norwegian has already agreed to a bumper deal to move to United's rivals Manchester City this summer he is not available. Players like Victor Osihmen and Tammy Abraham would fit the profile but they have seemingly been priced out of move this summer, with Italian media stating that both would command a fee of around £100m.

This means there are limited options, but one player that could be available for United is Darwin Nunez. According to Talksport Cavani's countryman could be available for £68m and Ten Hag is interested in bringing him to Old Trafford this summer.

The Uruguayan has scored 34 games in 41 games this season, which includes six goals in the Champions League. Nunez was also lauded for his performances in Europe against the likes of Liverpool and Ajax, the latter is likely where Ten Hag first became aware of the player.
