Netflix drops one of the 'best TV series' ever 20 years after it first aired

The acclaimed TV series that captivated audiences worldwide in the 00s has finally landed on Netflix, and on a rather eerie date to boot.

Lost, which premiered in 2004, introduced us to beloved characters such as Jack (played by Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway). The riveting drama revolved around a group of plane crash survivors marooned on a mysterious island and ran for six seasons until 2010.

To this day, it's frequently lauded as one of the best shows ever made.

Those who have seen the series - or even rewatched it multiple times- will be familiar with a sequence of significant numbers that recur throughout the plot. The specific numbers were 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, which are used by the character Hurley (Jorge Garcia) in the lottery before he strikes it rich.

However, due to the catastrophic plane crash, Hurley believes he has been cursed with bad luck. The number pattern ends up appearing multiple times, including on a mysterious hatch that the passengers stumble upon in the jungle, reports the Daily Star.

So, it's no wonder that Netflix chose to release Lost on a date that matched the numbers. The entire series is now available for binge-watching on the streaming giant, with all episodes released on August 15.

If you were to note the date in the American style, beginning with the month followed by the day, it would be 8/15... which are two of the six numbers in the sequence, in the correct order. Lost has arrived on Netflix just shy of its 20th anniversary, having initially aired on September 22, 2004.

The cast is packed with stars including Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Emilie de Ravin, Dominic Monaghan, Terry O'Quinn, Henry Ian Cusick, Elizabeth Mitchell, Harold Perrineau, Michael
