Erik ten Hag explains why Raphael Varane starts for Manchester United vs Wolves fixture

Erik ten Hag has started Raphael Varane for Manchester United against Wolves because the defender 'knows how to win'.

Varane sustained an injury when Sevilla visited Old Trafford in the Europa League on April 13 and he starts on Saturday afternoon against Wolves for the first time since picking up that problem.

The Frenchman will start alongside Victor Lindelof and they'll be supported by Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bisska in defence.

In midfield, Ten Hag has started Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes, whilst Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Antony have the responsibility of leading the attack in the absence of Marcus Rashford, who is absent from the squad.

Rashford was a doubt for the game and when the starting teams were confirmed, it was revealed he was set to miss the match.

Ten Hag, speaking to MUTV, discussed his starting line-up and Rashford's injury and said: "We know he's [Rashford] scored a lot of goals and he's had a great season, but today he's not available. We have a squad and others have to score.

"My focus is on this team and this squad. You have to do it with the players available. Sabitzer is injured as well, so he's not available. Varane knows how to win, so he can help us and guide the team in that aspect.

"He's proven that so many times, not only at Man United but for his nation, for Real Madrid. He knows how to win and win trophies, so we're really pleased that he's back.

"They are no easy games, we're aware of it. We have to give everything and we have to deliver."
