Neil Lennon 'agrees' Rapid Bucharest deal as former Celtic boss set for dugout return after 19 months

Neil Lennon is set to make his return to the dugout in ROMANIA after reportedly agreeing to take over at Rapid Bucharest.

The former Celtic and Hibs boss has been out of work since being harshly sacked by Omonia Nicosia 19 months ago, despite leading them to Cypriot Cup glory and the Europa League. He had to been linked to a return to the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen and the Hibees, while also interviewing for the Republic of Ireland job. But Lennon will continue his career overseas with the Romanian giants, according to the Scottish Sun.

Lennon held talks with Rapid last week and has been invited to attend the Bucharest derby this weekend to watch his prospective employers take bitter rivals FCSB - formerly known as Steaua Bucharest. After the game in the club's new Rapid-Guilesti Stadium Lennon is expected to put pen to paper on a two-year deal with £1.5million.

The 52-year-old will replace Cristiano Bergodi after he was sacked last month. Legendary former Romania goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont oversaw the remainder of the league campaign as caretaker. Rapid finished second in the table behind FCSB before losing seven of their eight playoff matches.
