Neighbours in luxury £1,150-a-month apartments hit by knife-point muggings, squatters and car park chaos

Residents in a luxury Salford apartment block say they have been hit by wave of muggings, squatters, and car parking mayhem. Tenants in the Local Crescent building, which boasts a swimming pool and a gym, have been plagued by a string of issues since the complex opened in 2020.

Several fed-up neighbours have told the Manchester Evening News they how they've decided to move out after just a year in the Hulme Street towers. “The area is really, really high for crime,” resident Leila Layzell said. “I have never known anything like it. I have had my phone snatched out of my hand by a man on a bike. This was a regular occurrence for residents.”

The 24-year-old content creator has recently moved out of her flat, but even her exit was blighted by crime. She said: “They refused to let us park [my moving van] in the car park. £3,000 of my stuff was taken from the van, including all my cameras for work.

“The woman’s response was this was nothing to do with us rather than trying to help me call the police.”

UrbanBubble, who manage the block, say they are unaware of knifepoint muggings, which residents have reported to the police and the MEN. They also say residents have been told to find alternative parking options as the car park is full.

Another resident, Alicia Hall, has reported similar issues of residents being robbed at knifepoint in outside communal areas. She has also told the MEN that there was a wave of bike thefts, caused by a squatter.
