"Needs to grow up" - Graham Roberts urges £25m Spurs ace to "become a man" after another setback

Ryan Sessegnon needs to “grow up” and “become a man” after his latest injury setback, according to former Tottenham captain Graham Roberts.

The 21-year-old has been riddled with injuries since he made the £25m move from Fulham almost three years ago, and is once again on the sidelines after suffering a muscle problem against Everton recently.

While this has been Sessegnon’s most productive of his three years at Tottenham, it’s still been stop-start for the youngster.

A knock saw him miss the first three months of the season, which meant he didn’t make his first Premier League appearance until November. He did return and produce a fine performance against Liverpool, arguably his best in a Spurs shirt, but a muscle problem would keep him out of the entire festive period.

Once he returned, he would enjoy his best run in the side, starting six games in all competitions and appeared to have climbed above Sergio Reguilon in the pecking order. Sessegnon even chipped in with an assist in the victory at Leeds before setting up the opener against Everton nine days later.

However, he suffered another muscle problem in the latter stages of the first half of the 5-0 win over the Toffees, which is expected to keep him out of action until after the international break.

Sessegnon has played more than 900 minutes this term, which is more than his entire Tottenham career combined before, but Roberts doesn’t believe that the wing-back has developed properly.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Sessegnon needs to grow up, become a man, and become stronger.”
