Nathan Patterson sees Everton chance door open in brutal circumstances as Sean Dyche hands him seal of approval

Nathan Patterson looks set for an extended run in the Everton side after a potentially 'serious' injury for Seamus Coleman.

The Irishman has kept the Scotland international - who joined the Toffees in January 2022 from Rangers - out of his right-back role under Sean Dyche. Everton are scrapping for Premier League survival and were dealt a sickening blow as half-time approached in their crucial match with fellow strugglers Leicester City, when stalwart Coleman went down in pain.

He was eventually stretchered off after clutching his knee and Patterson came on in his place as the game ended 2-2. And with four games remaining in the season, Dyche has confirmed it doesn't look good for Coleman, which is likely to open the door for the Scottish deputy in unfortunate circumstances. The Everton boss was left impressed by the man who filled in, saying: "It is really unfortunate and we are waiting on news. It looks like a knee injury and it could be serious, so we don't know yet.

"I thought he was terrific so it is a real loss to us. But I thought Patto did really well, it's not east coming on in games like that, and I thought he was excellent."
