John Souttar injury relief as Hearts team-mate Andy Halliday proves to be wide of the mark

John Souttar has not suffered yet another Achilles injury after Andy Halliday sparked fears over his Hearts team-mate.

The Tynecastle club’s medics are confident Souttar’s injury picked up in the weekend draw against Dundee United is not a recurrence of his previous career-threatening injuries.

Souttar, who will join Rangers in the summer after signing a pre-contract, left Tannadice in a moon boot after he was forced to come off.

Halliday came off the bench in a game that saw FIVE players go off injured and as he listed the nature of the injuries he told Open Goal podcast: "Big soapy's (Souttar) Achilles.”

However, Souttar underwent a scan at start of the week and while it’s not yet clear the full extent, it’s understood to be an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old even has an outside chance of featuring in the Scottish Cup tie against St Mirren on Saturday.

Robbie Neilson admitted after the match that he’d never seen an injury crisis like it during his time in football.

He said: "I've never been involved in something like this in my 25 years in football. It was unbelievable. We started the game really well and then we got injury after injury after injury.”
