Nathan Ake says what Man City fans are thinking about Pep Guardiola

The Jurgen Klopp questions were inevitable - at least for Manchester City.

Ange Postecoglou wasn't really interested in talking about the Liverpool boss after Tottenham's FA Cup defeat on Friday night, and understandably so. His comments probably wouldn't add much given he has only just arrived in the league, and he wanted to focus on his team.

Pep Guardiola more than made up for that though, talking about how City's success couldn't be defined without Liverpool in this era and vice versa. Liverpool have been City's main rival for most of Guardiola's time in England and Klopp has troubled the manager for even longer given they went up against each other in the Bundesliga.

Klopp leaving feels like the end of an era for the Premier League, and means even more eyes will turn towards Guardiola. As was pointed out to him in the press conference at Spurs, without Klopp he is the only manager in the division to have won the league (and not just once, he added!); he will also be the longest-serving.

The Liverpool manager is leaving at the end of nine years because he feels like his energy is low. Guardiola's contract is set to run out in the summer of 2025, which would mark nine years since he walked in at the Etihad.

Txiki Begiristain and club executives will have already had to think about a successor on several occasions. They couldn't know back in 2016 that he would stay for eight years when his previous longest stint was four at boyhood club Barcelona, and subsequent contract extensions have tended to be in the final year of his deals.
