My Man United reject is astounding and he's desperate to show them what they’ve lost

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has praised Teden Mengi, calling him 'astounding' ahead of the young centre-back's reunion with his old team Manchester United.

The Hatters are hoping to bounce back at Kenilworth Road after their 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United last weekend. Teden Mengi didn't play in the match against the Blades, but he might be in the starting line-up this weekend following his recovery from an ankle problem.

Mengi left United last summer and joined Luton where he has performed well. Discussing his defender, Rob Edwards said: "Teden's fully fit and available. He's been brilliant for us this year.

"For a younger player to step up, come away from home, out of his comfort zone and perform at the highest level as he has is astounding. I'm not surprised with anything he does, but perhaps I was surprised by how quickly he adapted to his surroundings and his team-mates.

"Hopefully he'll continue that. He has a high ceiling and I know he will be desperate to play this weekend."

When Luton played at Old Trafford in November, they lost 1-0. Mengi started that game and another former United player, Tahith Chong, came on for the last 30 minutes.

Edwards praised the Dutch winger who played for United from 2016 to 2022. He added: "He's been really effective coming on, especially when there's more space and we're a transitional threat.

"He also gives us a bit of balance with a left-footer on that side and he's certainly pushing for a start. He's shown many strengths in many areas and he's somebody who trains full throttle every single day."
