Mustafa Ali could make a shock WWE return on Raw tonight

Mustafa Ali is set for a shocking return to WWE, six months after asking for his release from the company. 

According to a new report from Fightful Select, a pitch has been made to the 36-year-old to return to TV as soon as the next edition of Monday Night Raw, which takes place tonight (25 April). Although no date or plan has been confirmed at this stage for the former police officer. 

Ali hasn’t wrestled for WWE since losing to Drew McIntyre on the 29 October 2021 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, and in January posted a video on social media explaining that he had requested his release from WWE. 

Reports around time revealed that Ali had a ‘heated argument’ with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon over the creative direction for Ali and his lack of TV time in the recent months. However, his request to be released was denied and his WWE deal still has a number of years left to run. 

Ali later posted on social media account that he would see everyone in ‘two and half years’, referencing what you’d assume is the time remaining on his current WWE contact.

He has endured a frustrating time since making his WWE debut in 2016. After progressing through WWE’s now defunct cruiserweight division and 205 Live, Ali was given a push as top baby face on SmackDown and was originally scheduled to be part of a world title match at the 2019 Elimination Chamber match, but has to pull out due to injury. 

In a cruel twist of fate, he was replaced by Kofi Kingston, in a move that set the wheels in motion for Kingston’s famous WWE Championship win at WrestleMania and the birth of Kofimania.
