Murder arrest made after 'much-loved family man' found dead at house in Fallowfield

A man is being quizzed by detectives after being arrested on suspicion of murdering a man in Fallowfield. Fintan McDwyer was found dead at a house on Platt Lane shortly before 9am on Monday (July 1).

Officers are "looking at numerous lines of enquiry" but believe a "violent assault" took place in the property. Mr McDwyer suffered fatal which they believe were caused by a "sharp instrument."

A 30-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of his murder, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said this evening (Sunday). He was held in Longsight this morning and remains in custody for questioning by detectives from the force's Major Incident Team.

They stress their investigation is still very much ongoing and that they are "continuing to build a timeline of events surrounding Fintan’s death." They are appealing for anyone who may have information that could help to them to urgently come forward.

In particular, they are keen to on speak to anyone who saw a man walking in the area of Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield and Birchfields Park, Rusholme at around 4am and 4.30am in the early hours of Sunday, June 30, dressed in all-black clothing with a balaclava on.

Detective Inspector Lee Shaw of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: "This is a shocking murder of a much-loved family man. As the investigation progresses at pace, we have specially trained officers who have been deployed to support them and keep them updated throughout the investigation.

“Our investigation is moving quickly, and we continue to work round the clock to capture a picture of what happened to Fintan.

"I ask anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area that evening to come
