Erik ten Hag gives Leny Yoro verdict after defender is handed Manchester United debut

Manager Erik ten Hag has admitted he is "excited" to work with new signing Leny Yoro following his arrival at Manchester United.

Yoro finalised his switch to Old Trafford on Thursday evening, joining the club from Lille on a five-year contract. United agreed a deal with Lille that could rise to £58.9million.

The 18-year-old has been thrown straight into the starting line-up for Saturday afternoon's friendly against Rangers at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. He has been deployed in the heart of the defence alongside Jonny Evans.

Yoro, who is a France youth international, was linked with several other big-name clubs before finalising his move to United, including Real Madrid. However, the Reds saw off competition from them to secure his signature.

Ten Hag is now looking forward to seeing what he can bring to Old Trafford, describing the defender as a "huge talent" in his pre-match interview.

Asked if it is exciting to see him in a United shirt, Ten Hag told MUTV: "I think that is the right word; it is very exciting for him and for us. We are so pleased that we have signed him.

"He is a huge talent and we are really looking forward to working with him, to build him and you could see, on the pitch yesterday in the training drills, that he is so comfortable, so we are really excited about him."

United have unveiled their new adidas home kit with new front-of-shirt sponsors for the 2024/25 season - and you can get your hands on it right now.
