Mum's horror after brick hurled through bus window misses toddler's face by inches

A mum and toddler narrowly missed being injured after a group of yobs threw a brick at a moving bus.

Kerrie-ann Baxter, 24, from Gorton, was travelling on the 172 bus at around 9pm on February 10 with partner Andrew, 22, and six-month-old toddler Penny.

When the bus, which goes from Newton Heath to Chorlton, was going through Levenshulme Road, a group of children ran in front.

“The bus is five stops between my mum’s house and mine and my partner’s flat so we usually just jump on there as it’s only a £1 after 7pm,” Kerrie-ann told the M.E.N.

“We got on the bus at Knutsford Road, which is about five stops from mine.

“As it drove along Levenshulme Road, five or six lads ran in front of the bus while a couple of others stayed at the side.

“I saw one of them bend down and pick something up which looked really big and heavy like a brick and they just launched it at the bus.”

Kerrie-ann said she was sitting at the front of the bus with Penny in her pram when the brick was thrown at the window near to her, causing it to crack.

She explained: “As I heard it hit the bus, I turned around and just shouted to the driver ‘oh my god, they’ve thrown something’.

“The bus then went over a pothole and the impact of it caused the glass to shatter.

“It was absolutely petrifying. I just grabbed the pram and shouted for the driver to stop.”

Thankfully, by chance, the shattered glass fell outwards onto the road instead of into the bus.

“Instead of falling outwards, it could have fallen inwards on top of us and could have been a different story,” Kerrie-ann said.
