Mum's horror after 12-year-old son 'stabbed on bouncy castle' during sister's birthday party

The trial of a man accused of stabbing a 12-year-old boy during a birthday party has begun today (September 13).

Mason Clague, 22, is accused of stabbing the youngster on a bouncy castle in his grandmother's back garden in Bootle, Merseyside. Friends and family watched on in horror as the alleged attack took place in April, 2021.

Clague appeared at Liverpool Crown Court where he pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Opening the case, prosecutor Charlotte Atherton said: "On April 7 2021, a 12-year-old boy was chased by two men into the garden of his nan's house, where his younger sister was having a bouncy castle birthday, he was attacked, punched to the ground, and then stabbed multiple times to his leg and buttock area.

"The prosecution's case is that Mason Clague was one of the men who did that."

The court heard how the victim was attending his sister's birthday party when he and a 14-year-old decided to journey to a nearby corner shop for a drink at around 2pm. The pair went into a grassy area on the opposite side of the road and began "larking about" and throwing stones.

Ms Atherton said: "Meanwhile, the defendant was in his car on that side of the road. He got out of the car and began to cross over the road back to his house, and it was at that time that these stones being thrown by these two boys landed very close to him and that made him very angry. He began to shout at these boys. He ran into his home address and ran out with a second male."
