Mum of missing Jay Slater fears he has been 'taken against his will’ as desperate search continues in Tenerife

The mum of a British teenager who is missing in Tenerife fears her son may have been ‘taken against his will’ as the desperate search for him continues.

Jay Slater, 19, has not been seen since Monday (June 17) after going missing on the Spanish island. He had flown to Tenerife with two pals to attend the three-day NRG music festival.

But on Sunday evening, the teenager, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, stayed out with some new friends he had made while his pals went back to the hotel. He went to stay in their apartment but ended up' in the middle of nowhere'.

Jay, an apprentice bricklayer at Accrington and Rossendale College, was last heard from on Monday morning.

He called his friend Lucy Mae, who he was on holiday with, at around 8.15am and told her he planned to walk back to his accommodation from the mountainous area of Rural de Teno Park after missing a bus, a journey expected to take around 11 hours on foot. Jay hasn't been heard from since.

On Tuesday morning Jay’s mum Debbie Duncan flew to Tenerife to join the search for her son who she fears may have been ‘taken’.

Debbie told the PA news agency: “It’s just traumatic and it doesn’t feel real. It’s just awful, it’s horrendous.

“I think he’s been taken against his will with what’s been said, but it’s in the hands of the police.”

Speaking about her son, Debbie said: “He’s just a great person who everyone wanted to be with. He’s good looking, he’s a popular boy.”

She added that the police leading the search had been “very good”.
