Mum mauled by dog in the street left fuming after owner's response

A mum who was mauled by a dog in the street says its owner later told her it was 'fine with kids'.

Carly was attacked by the pet while out jogging in Whittles Avenue, Denton, on Tuesday evening. She told how the dog, which she believes to be a Scottish Terrier, jumped up at her as she was running past it.

The bite left Carly with bruising and a 'burning, throbbing' sensation around her hip, which required hospital treatment.

"I went out for a run and had my earphones in," the mum-of-two said.

"I tend to run in the evening. Normally, I try to run on the road when I approach a dog or pedestrian because it saves them being spooked.

"They saw me and I saw them. The dog was on an extendable lead. I went off the pavement onto the road. I was a good five metres away.

"The dog looked like it was coming up to me. I tried to move further away but, the next thing I knew, it went really vicious and was jumping on me. I turned and it bit me on my side.

"I knew it had got me. I could feel it burning and throbbing but at first I couldn't see anything."

When Carly told the dog's owner what had happened, she said he appeared 'surprised, but not overly empathetic'.

"I told him he needed to sort his dog out," she said.

"It should be wearing a muzzle if it gets spooked easily. What if that had been a child? I have a three-year-old and it could have been his face. He said ‘it’s fine with kids’."

Following the incident, Carly jogged back home and cleaned her wound before putting her young children to bed.

At first, she did not realise how serious her injury was, but says it grew 'progressively worse'.
