Man murdered his brother at home as their mum sat in the next room, trial hears

A 'paranoid' man interested in conspiracy theories murdered his younger brother in their home after developing a 'hatred' for him, a jury was told. Gilvy Anderson, 58, stabbed his brother Emile at the house in Stretford, Trafford, then picked up another knife and threatened his 80-year-old mother with it, prosecutors allege.

Mr Anderson denies murder and manslaughter, and is expected to claim he was acting in self defence. After being arrested, he told police: "Although I hated him, I didn’t want to kill him."

Manchester Crown Court heard that Mr Anderson lived with his mother Marlene and his two brothers, Emile, 50, and Gerrard, 59, at a house on Davyhulme Road. They each had their own room, and Mrs Anderson said there had been 'tension in the house' for some time.

Mrs Anderson said Gilvy had displayed increasing hostility towards Emile, as he believed his younger brother was stealing from him. He also began 'deliberately antagonising' his brother, including by moving the angle of a camera Emile had installed to cover a shed in the garden where he kept valuables, so it was 'useless' and no longer covered the area.

Gilvy Anderson would also leave weapons around the house and threaten to attack his sibling, Mr Johnson said. He had kept a knife under his pillow, a knife next to a computer kitchen and stored a hammer
