Multi-vehicle crash that saw car flipped onto its roof happened after police chase

A multi-vehicle smash in Bolton that saw a car flipped onto its roof came after a police chase, it has been revealed.

St Helens Road was cordoned off near its junction with Morris Green Lane with the fire service scrambled after 'several' vehicles were involved in a crash yesterday afternoon (July 22).

Today Greater Manchester Police revealed that the crash happened after a police pursuit by its Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU).

The chase began after the unit sighted a stolen vehicle that was later involved in a collision, a spokesperson from the force confirmed. No serious injuries have been reported.

An investigation into a burglary is ongoing and the vehicle has been recovered for forensics, the force added. No arrests have been made.

He added: "The police and the fire came and it was total chaos."

Another passer-by said: "People are constantly speeding or driving erratically on this road. I use it everyday and hate doing so."
