MPs demand protection for Taylor Swift fans over 'rip off' resale ticket prices

An MP has called for protection against 'rip-off' merchants charging exorbitant fees for Taylor Swift tickets. This week has seen thousands of Swifties struggle to get tickets for the European leg of the pop superstar's 'Eras' tour.

Taylor will be performing a number of shows in major cities in the UK including six in London, three in Liverpool, Three in Edinburgh, three in Dublin and one in Cardiff - but sadly not in Manchester. However, tickets have been very hard to come by with fans already reporting resellers charging incredibly high fees for tickets.

None less than self-proclaimed 'dad of a Swiftie' Kevin Brennan. The MP spoke in the House of Commons this week using his daughter as an example as to why more should be done about scalpers.

Addressing the House of Commons, Brennan said: "Could we have a debate on secondary ticketing? Because, as the father of a Swiftie, and I know that my honourable friend, the Deputy Shadow Leader of the House, is also the mother of a Swiftie.

"I was appalled to see that within an hour of tickets going on sale for the Taylor Swift concert at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, a ticket was on sale in the lower tier for £3,352 on Viagogo."

This caused an audible gasp from the House of Commons and Brennan finished his damning indictment with the words: "Why hasn’t the government protected our daughters from these sorts of rip-off merchants?"

Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt agreed and that it was a 'shocking example' and encouraged Brennan to raise the question during the next DCMS questions.
