Moyes could sign his own Andy Robertson as WHU plot bid for “extremely fast” sensation - opinion

West Ham are reportedly interested in signing Hoffenheim left-back David Raum this summer and the Germany international could be David Moyes’ own version of Andrew Robertson should he arrive at the London Stadium.

Reports have suggested that the Hammers are seriously considering signing the 24-year-old after his impressive performances in the Bundesliga last season.

After making the move to Germany’s top-flight from Greuther Furth, Raum enjoyed an incredible debut season with Die Kraichgauer, contributing three goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga.

WhoScored awarded him a superb average rating of 7.16 rating for his performances, while he has also established himself as a regular in the Germany team, so it is no surprise that he is attracting so much interest.

The young defender would offer West Ham a serious attacking threat down the left-hand side, with his pace and crossing ability causing Bundesliga sides all sorts of problems last season.

Hoffenheim’s sporting director Alexander Rosen was full of praise for Raum after his impressive season, saying:

“David is a highly talented and extremely fast player with a strong left foot who has developed into one of the most sought-after full-backs in Germany thanks to his outstanding performance this season.”

The Hammers will no doubt be in the market for a long-term replacement for Aaron Cresswell at left-back and Raum could be the ideal man, with FbRef suggesting that Liverpool‘s Robertson is the sixth-most similar player to him in terms of play style.

Considering how successful the Scotland captain has been during his time at Anfield, establishing himself as one of the top left-backs in the world, West Ham would do well to sign someone so similar to the former Hull City
