MotoGP Misano: Dovizioso prepares for farewell ‘party’

Andrea Dovizioso prepares to bid farewell to MotoGP this weekend as Misano World Circuit hosts the San Marino GP.

The final chapter in a 20-year career approaches for Dovizioso as the Italian will compete in his ultimate Grand Prix at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli this weekend. Three-time runner-up in the premier class world championship, the 36-year-old bows out after a frustrating year aboard the WithU RNF Yamaha.

After 15 victories in the MotoGP class, 24 across his Grand Prix career, and a world championship in 125cc to his name, Dovizioso was left fighting for a single point last time out at Austria. The Italian is hoping for more on home soil as he departs the paddock that saw his first race action in 2001, with Cal Crutchlow ready to take over the M1 for the remainder of the season.

“San Marino is the last Grand Prix,” Dovizioso confirmed ahead of round 14. “It will be very unusual and strange after all my career. Yet, I’m very happy to finish in Misano with all my friends and fans.

“I hope it will be a great weekend. It’s going to be very important to be competitive, trying to score some points and I think we’ll have a good four days there and a great party.”
