Motherwell star Kevin van Veen: Draw a kick in the teeth and I take full responsibility

It wasn't Kevin van Veen's day at Fir Park as the Motherwell striker did everything but score in their goal-less draw with Dundee United.

And the Dutchman says he takes full responsibility for the Steelmen failing to take all three points from the Premiership clash, which leaves Motherwell fifth in the table.

Having hit a hat-trick in the midweek cup win over Inverness to make it seven goals in six games, van Veen saw a first half penalty saved by United keeper Carljohan Eriksson before he hit the crossbar just before half-time.

In the second half, fortune still wasn't on his side as a goal-bound effort was deflected narrowly wide with the goal at his mercy.

Following the match, the Dutchman took to Twitter to let his feelings known after the Steelmen failed to get the win they wanted after last week's 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock.

He tweeted: "Team played out of its skin today. Every single player deserved the full three points.

"Bossed and dominated them for 90 minutes.

"Massive kick in the teeth for myself not giving my team three points.

"This will hurt me for a couple of days. I take full responsibility."
