Motherwell midfielder ruled out for over three months as star undergoes surgery

Motherwell midfielder Harry Paton has been ruled out for more than three months after the club revealed he has undergone surgery on an ankle injury.

The Canadian suffered the injury during the first-half of last Saturday's 3-1 win over Clyde at New Douglas Park and was forced off the field of play during the Premier Sports Cup group stage clash.

And the Steelmen have now announced he is sent for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell told the club website: "Harry has had surgery on his ankle. It was a pretty bad injury. It looks like he’ll be out for a minimum of 14 weeks. We’ll support Harry to make sure he comes back from this injury."

Meanwhile, Kettlewell also provided an update on three key men who are not featuring at the moment.

He added: "We’ve got the likes of Ross Callachan and Sam Nicholson out doing some pretty extensive work but not back in the group yet. That’s moving in the right direction.

“Callum Slattery is coming along really well, he has a smile on his face because he’s making good strides.

“He’s desperate to get back on the pitch but there’s a timescale involved. You won’t see him playing until well into November. If we introduce him too early, there’s a risk of another injury.”

Motherwell close out their League Cup group stage on Sunday when the Group G leaders host Partick Thistle at Fir Park, looking to ensure they top the section and secure qualification for the knockout stages.
