Motherwell made life difficult for ourselves in cup win, admits young star

Ewan Wilson admits Motherwell made life difficult for themselves against Clyde, but showed resilience to force their way to three points.

The defender said: “I thought we did well, but then we made it hard for ourselves by giving Clyde a goal and a life-line, and after that it was kind of scrappy, we weren’t dealing with second balls.

“We got the goal [to go 2-1 ahead] and then after that we took over, with our fitness levels.

With all due to respect to Clyde, they made it really tough for us, they came out a lot faster and pressed us more than maybe the likes of Montrose and Edinburgh, but apart from that I thought we looked comfortable, though there is a lot to improve on.

“But getting the second goal just after they equalised was important. It shows that once we do slack and lose a goal, we can bounce back really quickly, and we have the resilience to do that.”

Motherwell have a blank week before hosting a Partick Thistle side who on Saturday were sitting two points behind, but with a game in hand at home to Clyde last night (Tuesday).

It’s likely to be winner-takes-all on Sunday, which will affect seeding in the knock-out stages.
