Motherwell legend set to replace St Mirren icon in new role

Motherwell legend Keith Lasley is on the verge of ending a 15-year association with the Fir Park club to replace St Mirren icon Tony Fitzpatrick as chief executive at the Paisley club.

A report in the Daily Record says compensation has been agreed between the two clubs, with Lasley set to take up his new role at the end of this season.

Lasley, 42, has been a player and coach at Motherwell for the last 15 years, but went from being assistant manager under Stephen Robinson to a coach under Graham Alexander's backroom set-up.

The former Plymouth Argyle midfielder will be joining Robinson at St Mirren when he heads there in May, having helped the Steelmen land a Premiership top-six place, where they are chasing a European place.

Lasley played for Motherwell during two spells, from 1999 to 2004, when he spent two years at Plymouth, and returned in 2006.

Stephen Robinson ended his playing career in 2017 to make him his assistant manager, and he stepped up to be interim boss when the Northern Irishman resigned in December 2020.

Lasley stayed on when Alexander took over, and signed a one-year deal last summer, bringing him in line with the former Scotland international and assistant Chris Lucketti.

But Lasley, who is from Paisley, looks set to join Saints to start a new chapter of his career.
