Motherwell job is Stuart Kettlewell's 'if he wants it'

Motherwell are reportedly set to offer interim boss Stuart Kettlewell the vacant manager's role at Fir Park.

The 38-year-old has enjoyed a 100 per cent success rate since taking the reins in the aftermath of Steven Hammell's sacking earlier this month, which came off the back of a 3-1 Scottish Cup defeat at Championship side Raith Rovers.

A 2-1 win over St Mirren in midweek and a surprise 2-0 triumph over third-place Hearts yesterday has impressed Fir Park chairman Jim McMahon and Daily Record report the job is Kettlewell's "if he he wants it", although it is uncertain if that will be on a deal until the end of the season or longer.

Motherwell's return to winning ways after 11 Premiership games without a victory has hauled them up the table from joint-bottom to ninth place - and boosted their survival bid significantly.

The Fir Park board appear keen to keep that momentum going and are this morning set to hold talks with Kettlewell, who was appointed the club's lead development coach earlier this season, about taking on the top job beyond this week.

Motherwell are understood to have had a three-man shortlist of former QPR and Blackpool manager Ian Holloway, ex-Peterborough boss Grant McCann and ex-Hibs gaffer Jack Ross for the role, although Ross reportedly pulled out of the running last week.

Asked about the position yesterday, Kettlewell said no talks had taken place with the board since he was appointed caretaker.

He said: "Genuinely, we've not had that conversation. I wasn't expecting that conversation. I was asked by the board and the chairman to take the team for Wednesday.
