Motherwell hero admits Celtic frustration and says rewards aren't coming

Blair Spittal says Motherwell must take courage from recent performances, but ultimately haven’t had what they deserved.

The midfielder equalised Luis Palma’s 85th-minute opener five minutes into stoppage time against Celtic, only for the champions to notch a winner two minutes after that.

Spittal says that’s the best Motherwell have played this season and reckons they’ve played the three top Premiership sides in each of their last trio of games.

But he knows they must start putting points on the table again.

He said: “If you don’t take courage from those sort of performances... it has been a tough run, the last three games.

“We’ve played against arguably the three form teams, or the three best teams in the league, and I think we’ve more than matched them in large spells.

“It’s just frustrating when you put so much into games and you’re not getting anything.

“But that’s probably the best we’ve played over the full season, I’d think, as a full collective, that last 90 minutes then.

“I think you could see by the scenes at the end when Celtic have scored that they’ve been in a right tough game.

“For a large part of the 90 I thought we restricted Celtic to not a lot.

“But it’s just a really sore one to take.”

Spittal thought he had earned his side a brilliant point against Brendan Rodgers’ team, but instead the Steelmen were again left licking their wounds.

“I think when you score that late on, you’re hoping to hold on,” he said.

“I thought we deserved something from the game and it has probably been the same story for the last three weeks.

“It’s really frustrating, but I think everyone can see the way we’re performing, and it’s important that we stick to that, keep the levels the way that they are.
