Motherwell exit explained as St Mirren transfer excites star ahead of 'something special'

Mark O'Hara insists the potential for success at St Mirren convinced him to leave Motherwell for Paisley.

The midfielder is the latest to join the Buddies from ML1, after assistant manager Keith Lasley also moved there to become chief operating officer.

Former 'Well boss Stephen Robinson is the gaffer while ex-Steelmen Charles Dunne, Curtis Main and Richard Tait are also at the Premiership club.

O'Hara first joined Motherwell in 2019 on loan from Peterborough United and signed a permanent deal in 2020.

He's gone on to make 74 appearances and has helped the Fir Park club into Europa Conference League football with a fifth place finish in the 2021/22 term.

Now looking to his new challenge, the former Dundee and Kilmarnock star can't wait to get going under his new boss.

He said: "I spoke with the manager and I could just feel that it's going to be something special next season so I'm happy to be a part of that.

"I feel now I'm well experienced and I do have a lot to bring the team. I feel my best football is yet to come and hopefully that will be with St Mirren over the coming seasons.

"The manager sees me as a box-to-box midfielder, getting about the park and affecting both ends of the pitch. But I'm happy to help the team in any way that I can.

"I wish I could just get started right away but I'll enjoy my next couple of weeks and I'm really relishing the challenge coming in here."

O'Hara joins fellow midfielders Liam Grimshaw and Liam Donnelly in departing Fir Park when their contracts expire this summer.
