Motherwell boss praises his side after late winner at St Johnstone

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell hailed his side’s ability to score a late winner, but warned that they’ll need that over the course of this season.

Sub Moses Ebiye popped up with a winner in the last minute of stoppage time as it looked like ending 1-1 against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

Benji Kimpioka had cancelled out Dan Casey’s early opener, and it looked like a point apiece for both sides, after Tony Watt had a goal disallowed for a foul on keeper Ross Sinclair.

Jack Sanders was shown a second yellow amid the late drama in Perth, but the game was won and lost by that point.

With nine points from their last three games put Motherwell fourth in the Premiership, albeit temporarily.

Kettlewell said: “It was a trait we’ve had for the last 19 months or so that I’ve been here as a manager that we do score a lot of late goals, and we’re going to need that over the course of the season.

“It’s a brilliant way to celebrate, going into the international break, but we’re going to need more of that, going into the season, no doubt.

“It’s great. Genuinely, you see the elation from myself, the staff and my players, and especially supporters – it’s a great way to enjoy your weekend.

“We stuck with it, we believed that we could get a winner, and I think you could see that in the changes we and St Johnstone made – both teams were trying to win the game.

“But it’s a brilliant feeling for us at our club, it keeps that wee bit of consistency going from us.

“Moses is that laid-back, but he got the final touch on it, and that’s what we thought we were bringing to the club, someone who sniffs out a chance, sniffs out a goal, and he’s done it a few times for us already.

“Again, we’re going to need more of that from him over the course
