Motherwell AC star retains Masters title during Scottish 5k Championships

Motherwell Athletics Club athlete Patricia Allen retained her female masters title at the Scottish 5k Championships.

Patricia, 74, won the W70 title at Silverknowes in Edinburgh.

She has been running for over 40 years, and has been a member of the club for 30 of those.

Twelve athletes from the club ran the Sri Chinmoy 5k race on May 5, with seven of them recording new personal best times.

These went to Jonathan Moore (15.29); Evan Crane (17.58); David Hoolaghan (20.54); Nicole Gierlowski (21.03); Maryann Milne (21.38); Lilly Jeffrey (23.03) and Charla Hands (24.04).

Iain Campbell finished in 18.49, Emma Knox in 24.44, Jac Molloy in 24.54, Phyllis Hands in 25.04, and Patricia Allen in 33.02.

Club spokesperson Jac Molloy was pleased with the recent performances and told Press Sport : “An out and back with a twist, perfectly flat course and extremely fast field had the potential for some great times, and that was definitely the case for the club.

“Despite a freezing breath-taking headwind in parts, not only for the first mile but the last half-mile too, seven of our 12 athletes ran personal bests.”

Motherwell Athletics Club are always welcoming new members, both in senior endurance events and track and field.

They take part in various different competitions, for athletes of all ages, including Central and South of Scotland Athletics League (CSSAL).
