Most gruesome UFC finish ever? Jon Jones' submission on Lyoto Machida

Jon Jones is a true UFC great.

In fact, Tapology recently had “Bones” ranked second to Georges St-Pierre in their all-time MMA and UFC list.

Jones, who last fought in February 2020, has got fans talking again this week after footage of his savage standing guillotine choke on Lyoto Machida in 2011 emerged with the question: “What’s the most gruesome finish to a fight you’ve ever seen?”

The original poster, on r ufc, cited Jones on Machida. Others were quick to agree, with one fan posting: “My wife was crying when this happened, she kept saying ‘oh my god, is he dead?!’”

Another followed up by saying: “That’s true because Machida is one of the baddest dudes on the planet but the way he dropped like a dead corpse as soon as Jones let go of his neck is scary.”

However, other examples were forthcoming, including Dan Henderson on Michael Bisping.

Many feel Henderson, who took his opponent out with a savage shot, then went too far by following up as these comments show.

“Hendo’s H-Bomb and follow up on Bisping is absolutely brutal.”

“Henderson turned Mike into a dead body man that was nasty.”

“That was scary.”

“Honestly, it’s so gruesome that it single handedly made me like Hendo less. It was wholly unnecessary, but I should say I don’t know what went on before the fight and honestly, I can understand what rage feels like in the moment and if they hated each other then fair enough?”

Yoel Romero also gets a mention as does Tony Ferguson’s epic battle with Justin Gaethje.

“Romero finishing Rockhold felt like an execution.”

“Romero v Kennedy.”

“The last 2 rounds of Tony V Justin were really hard to watch.”

There are always going to be plenty of opinions when such questions are asked about such a tough sport.
