Morrisons petrol station sealed off after gas leak

Police and fire crews were called to a petrol station in Baglan this morning (Wednesday), after a "storage bullet" containing approximately 6,000 litres of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) was leaking. Firefighters from Neath and Port Talbot were called to the incident at the Morrison's Petrol Station on Churchill Road in Baglan Industrial Estate at 7.42am and remained on-scene for almost two hours.

Police were later called to the incident and erected cordons at the site, whilst local residents were asked to avoid the area and keep their windows and doors closed.

An initial statement from South Wales Police appealed for people to keep their distance and said: "Avoid the area: Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident at Morrisons Petrol Station on Christchurch Road, Baglan Industrial Estate in Port Talbot.

"We are asking people to avoid the area until further notice. Thankyou for your understanding and cooperation."

WalesOnline can now confirm emergency services have vacated the area and the incident has been resolved. However, the petrol station remains cordoned off from the public for the time being.

We're updating the blog below with the latest information from the emergency services and other parties involved. Scroll down for updates:
