Major road taped off after reports man was 'hit by lorry' and killed at busy junction

Officers have taped off a busy junction in Whitefield after reports a man was killed in a collision. The Manchester Evening News understands the man was hit by a lorry at around 1pm this afternoon (March 15).

The incident took place at the junction of Bury New Road and Radcliffe New Road. Officers have been at the scene for several hours since the collision took place.

A tent has been been placed at the scene ahead next to a lorry which is inside the cordon. Bury New Road has been taped off between Elms Street and George Street since around 1.30pm.

Another neighbour, Catherine Byrne, said it was the second serious incident since she moved to the area two years ago. "It is what it is, it's just a busy junction. I'm not sure what they would do, it happens everywhere."

Drivers have faced long delays on neighbouring roads as traffic is diverted away from the scene, with Stanley Road and Radcliffe New Road both busy. A spokesperson for Bury Council said: "We've been informed of a serious road traffic incident near the
