"More of a concrete target" - Journalist now says Leeds "likely" to pursue "elite" 176-game star

Leeds United are ‘likely to pursue’ RB Leipzig defensive midfielder Tyler Adams as Elland Road favourite Kalvin Phillips nears his exit for Manchester City, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Phillips appears to be on the brink of joining the Premier League champions after an agreement worth up to £45million was reached on Friday, but Marsch has already set his sights on securing Adams’ services.

According to respected German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Leeds are mulling over whether to pounce for Adams.

The Whites have already been successful when trying to lure stars away from Leipzig’s sister club Red Bull Salzburg after signing Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen during the early stages of the transfer window.

It seems a move for Adams, who has been described as ‘elite’, could prove to be fruitful as well as Plettenberg has revealed Leipzig are eager to find a buyer.

That is despite the 23-year-old making 36 appearances for his current employers last season, while he also chalked up a solitary assist.

However, Leipzig’s wish to sell Adams does not necessarily mean it will be easy for Leeds to strike a deal as the Bundesliga giants are in a strong negotiating position thanks to the midfielder still having three years remaining on his £38,000-per-week contract.

Taylor expects Leeds to head to Germany with a bid for Adams, who is valued at £15.3million by Transfermarkt.

The journalist feels the Whites’ recent negotiations for Aaronson and Kristensen could prove beneficial as they attempt to get a deal over the line.

Taylor told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Adams would be more of a concrete target and one they’re likely to pursue.
