Molineux latest news: Bruno Lage praised for his excellent job as Wolves boss

Journalist Pete O’Rourke reckons that Bruno Lage deserves a great deal of credit for the job he’s done at Wolves this season.

The Molineux outfit finished in the bottom half of the Premier League table last term, but Lage’s arrival has seen them emerge as European contenders once again.

Considering the Midlands outfit finished 13th last season, scored just 36 goals in the top-flight and ended up 20 points behind the top-six, Lage has worked wonders to guide Wolves into a position where they’re not just in the conversation to qualify for Europe, but possibly the Champions League.

Victory over Leicester on Sunday not only matched their tally of wins throughout the whole of last season, but it moved them six points behind fourth place Manchester United, with two games in hand and only two points behind West Ham, who sit fifth.

Despite scoring four goals in their last two league matches, only Norwich (15) and Burnley (20) have scored fewer than their 23 this season. But defensively, Wolves have the second-best record, with only Manchester City (17) conceding fewer, highlighting exactly where Lage’s men have produced their best work.

Wolves travel to Arsenal and West Ham in the space of four days later this week, in two games that could go some way to deciding the outcome of their campaign.

Regardless of how they fare on those trips to London, O’Rourke believes that Lage has done a fine job since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think you have to take your hat off to Bruno Lage, who’s come in and stepped into big shoes following the departure of Nuno. But it seems like he’s been there such a long time and it looks like Wolves could qualify for Europe again.”
