Mo Salah: Liverpool will learn from rare home loss

Mo Salah believes that Liverpool will learn lessons from their 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan but that qualifying for the Champions League quarter-finals was more important than Tuesday nights result.

Joel Matip headed against the crossbar and Salah hit the woodwork twice as the hosts were beaten for the first time in a year at Anfield but the 2-0 first-leg victory they had eked out in Italy proved sufficient.

"They were a tough team," said Salah. "Even in the away game they were very good, though we managed to win that.

"We struggled in the beginning but the most important thing is that we qualified. Hopefully we'll be better in the next game.

"I hit the post twice. It's OK. Maybe in the next game I will score three! I don't mind when the team qualify. That is the most important thing, for sure."

Liverpool won the Carabao Cup last month and remain in contention for an unprecedented quadruple. Salah hopes defeat to the Italians, who finished with 10 men after Alexis Sanchez's red card, will refocus their drive for silverware.

"We lost the game and maybe that will give us a push," Salah said. "It's a good game to learn from and carry on.

"Maybe we need to start from the beginning, winning games.

"Maybe in the back of our mind we are a little overconfident at the moment.

"It’s always important to win but sometimes, like tonight, you hit the post twice and you miss chances, it can happen. The good thing is that it is not in the league, and we have qualified. That is great.

"Everyone wants to win the Champions League and the Premier League and we will fight for both so let's see."
