"Missed opportunity for West Ham" – Journalist drops London Stadium claim after Moyes comments

Journalist Pete O’Rourke reckons that West Ham‘s failure to make any January signings was a missed opportunity for the club.

The Hammers are still fighting on three fronts heading into the business end of the season but were unable to improve their squad in the recent window.

West Ham went into January with just two fit senior centre-backs and Michail Antonio and were in desperate need of bolstering their numbers at both ends of the pitch to help deal with a potentially hectic second half of the season.

And while David Moyes was hopeful of bringing in new players in the window, the Hammers proved unsuccessful in their attempts to sign anyone.

Fortunately for West Ham, their only main injury concern right now is Angelo Ogbonna, who’s been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee problem.

However, in their two games since the window has closed, Moyes’ side have struggled. Firstly, they just about squeezed past sixth-tier Kidderminster in the FA Cup before narrowly beating Watford on their return to Premier League action, highlighting their need for squad depth.

Depending on their progression in the Europe League and FA Cup, West Ham could have as many as 25 games left to play in the next three-and-a-half months, which is why O’Rourke believes that failing to sign could prove an opportunity missed for the London Stadium outfit.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “When you bring in new faces it gives a whole fresh impetus to the squad, it raises performance levels from other players that are trying to keep their place in the team, knowing their place is under threat from new signings, so I think it was a missed opportunity for West Ham.”
