This was Everton.

This was Goodison Park at its raucous best.

This was a side finally playing in a way those in the stands could get behind.

Everton fans had joined together in recent days to campaign for everyone to get in the stadium early and create the best atmosphere possible in what was an absolutely crucial clash.

And it worked.

Frank Lampard might not have wanted to admit it when asked in his pre-match press conference, but this *was* must-win. It doesn't bear thinking about the precarious situation the side would have been in if they hadn't.

Even with three points in the bag the Blues will still be looking over their shoulders, but they can now do so with a growing amount of confidence.

Suddenly there's no more wondering about where the next Premier League win will come from, that will be like a 50-tonne weight being lifted from the shoulders of every player and member of staff.

This was a performance that typified what Everton have been missing all season, and they were determined to live up to the expectation of supporters right from the first whistle.

A huge banner was displayed in the Gwladys Street, flags were in abundance and the noise was absolutely stunning.

It was a throwback to something we've unfortunately not seen for a while, whether that be down to behind-closed-doors matches or uninspiring performances.

You could easily argue this is the best Goodison Park has felt in years, and the players produced a throwback performance of their own on the pitch.

Picking out individual performances from the group for praise is almost impossible. Every single player stood up to the task exceptionally in terms of quality, determination and energy.
