Millwall set for welcome player boost

Millwall could soon welcome back Ryan Leonard from injury, as per a recent report by News at Den.

The 29-year-old midfielder had surgery done on an ankle injury back in December and as a result was ruled out for three months, however it now appears that he could return to action next month.

Leonard is one of Millwall’s three long term absentees alongside the likes of Sheyi Ojo and Tom Bradshaw.

However despite the fact that he could soon return to the first team fold, Millwall boss Gary Rowett has refused to reveal a specific return date for the versatile midfielder:

“Lenny is anticipated as an end of February, start of March return. That’s if everything goes to plan, which of course it doesn’t always do.”

Leonard previously signed for the Lions from Sheffield United back in January 2019 and has since gone on to become a key player for the South London side.

His current contract at the Den is due to expire at the end of the season.

The Verdict

This is good news for the Lions as it means that they will soon have another option at their disposal as they seek to get moving back up the league standings.

Rowett is clearly a big fan of Leonard and will no doubt be keen to integrate him back into the squad at the earliest opportunity as he continues to make his way back from injury.

It will certainly be interesting to see how much he gets in the way of playing time, with there being a lot of competition across many key positions in this Millwall team.

He will have to work very hard to not only get back to full fitness but also to steal a place in the starting eleven in the long run.
